Station 8 was dispatched to assist Guthrie Air and Tioga Ambulance at the HMAC LZ this halloween evening. Tioga EMS was on scene of a chest pains call in Tioga when the helicopter was requested. Engine 8-3 (C810) with a crew of 5 and Squad 8-18 (C8) with a crew of 2 responded. 911 was notified by C8 that HMAC was unavailable due to acess problems and the LZ would be moved to the Williamson High School Soccer Field. Just as E8-3 and Squad 8-18 arrived, they were notified that the helicopter was cancelled and all fire units were cancelled at 1905 hours.

10/29/10 1940hrs
Stations 8 and 18 (Nelson) were dispatched to a vehicle crash in the area of Route 15 and Route 49 in Lawrence Township. Chief 8-10 (Scott) responded and was notified that a 2nd call reported the incident to be northbound on Route 15, south of Route 49. It was reported that a vehicle struck a deer and was off the roadway. Station 18 was recalled. Engine 8-3 (C830) with 3, Ambulance 8-6 (C860 & C870) with 4, Squad 8-18 with 2, and Chief 8-20 (Ransom) all responded. Chief 8-10 arrived and reported 1 vehicle off the roadway. Fire units arrived and established a safe zone along the roadway and assessed. The occupant was checked over by BLS while Lawrence Twp PD investigated the crash. Units remained on scene until 2036 hours.

SHED FIRE IN BOX 18-03

Stations 8 and 18 (Nelson) were dispatched on Box 18-03 to 1220 Croft Hill Road in Lawrence Township for a shed fire. Engine 8-3 (C810) with a crew of 5, Engine 8-2 (C830) with 2, and Squad 8-18 with 2 all responded. Upon arrival of E8-3, it was reported as a small shed fully involved and on the ground. Crews from E8-3 advanced a handline but held up do to arcing wires next to the shed. The structure nearby showed visable heat damage on the exterior and was checked for any extension with the imager. Nothing was found interior and crews from 8 and E18-2 (Nelson) awaited on scene for the electric company before extinguishing the small shed fire. All units cleared at 1739 hours.

2ND LZ FOR THE NIGHT

10/19/10 0125hrs
With members still at the station from the previous call, Station 8 was dispatched to assist Guthrie Air at the South Overlook Landing Zone for a victim of a MVC in the Westfield Area. Engine 8-3 (C8 & C810) with 5, Patrol 8-4, and Squad 8-18 all responded. Crews arrived and established the LZ and awaited for Ambulance 16-6 (Clymer) and Guthrie Air to arrive. During that time, Tioga County 911 advised that EMS was requesting a helicopter for the second patient from the Westfield MVC. Crews assisted loading the patient into GA and left the LZ established. LZO was notified that Lifeflight 4 would be enroute with approximately 20 minute ETA. Ambulance 25-7 (Valley) arrived shortly before Lifeflight 4 landed. Fire crews assisted with loading the helicopter. All units cleared at hours.

Station 8 was dispatched for ambulances this evening to a mutual aid crash on Route 15 in Tioga Township. 7 mins later Chief 2-10 requested Engine 8-3 to be dispatched to assist Guthrie Air and LifeNet 7-7 at a landing zone off of Route 287 in Tioga Township. Engine 8-3 (C8-10) with a crew of 5 and Chief 8 responded. Upon arrival, Chief 2-10 had established LZO and E8-3 stoodby awaiting the helicopters. EMS arrived and E8-3s crew assisted with loading the patients. All units cleared at 1218 hours.

Station 8 was dispatched to a natural gas leak in the area of the Williamson High School in Lawrence Township. Engine 8-3 and Squad 8-18 responded. Lawrence Township PD arrived on scene and reported it next to Diamond T Welding. With the gas company (UGI) enroute, fire crews evacuated the nearby building and took monitored the air quality. UGI arrived and stopped the leak. The evacuated building was checked with the gas monitor and the scene was turned over to UGI and all fire units returned at 1437 hours.

Members from Station 8 participated in some more fire prevention activities today. Starting with a visit to Ransoms Day Care in Lawrence Township, Chief L. Strange, Asst Chief R. Scott, FF J. Burrows, and JR. FF/EMT A. Six went over some fire safety topics and showed firefighters in gear. In the afternoon, kids from the Tioga/Millerton Head Start took a field trip to Station 8. Chief Strange, Asst Chief Scott, JR FF/EMT Six and FF Dibble discussed fire safety and was given a tour of Engine 8-3 and the tools a firefighter uses.

EMERGENCY HELICOPTER CALL

10/13/10 0211hrs
Station 8 Fire was dispatched to the HMAC LZ while EMS was sent to a residence in Lawrenceville Borough. The patient was on a waiting list for a lung transplant and had recieved a call requiring her to be in Philadelphia within 2 hours. This plan was already known by members from Station 8. With the fog rolling in to the HMAC LZ, Engine 8-3 (C810), Squad 8-18, and Chief 8 (Strange) went enroute to find an available area. Fire apparatus travelled as far south as the welcome center before being recalled by C8. C8 requested Station 2 (Mansfield) be dispatched to assist the helicopter. As Chief 2 (Welch) responded, he was notified that the helicopter was flying over Mansfield and was prepared to land as soon as possible due to fog moving in. Ambulance 8-6, C2, and C8 met Life Flight 1 at the MU practice field and quickly loaded the patient and went airbourne within 3 mins.

Station 8 was dispatched for one engine to a hay bail fire in a field off the McCarthy Road in Caton, NY. Engine 8-2 and a crew of 3 with C8-10 responded. Upon arrival, E8-2s crew went to work with the brush trucks at the fire site doing mop up. E8-2 cleared at 1246 hours.

Members from Stations 8 & 7(Tioga) visited R.B. Walter Elementary today to speak to the Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classes about fire prevention. Topics discussed were how to prevent fires, be prepared to escape, and other safety rules. Members from Station 8 also dressed in the many different outfits an emergency member might wear including turnouts, EMS, wildfire, and water rescue gear. Jr FF/EMT A. Six, Jr FF/EMT C. Satterly, Probationary FF L. Hunter, FF J. Burrows, Asst Chief R. Scott, and Chief L. Strange all participated. "Deputy Chief" Carter Strange stopped in to help out with reading some fire safety tips to the Kindergarten class.

VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY

Station 8 was dispatched to a 1 vehicle crash at the intersection of Buckwheat Hollow Road and Cross Road in Lawrence Township. Engine 8-2 with 3 (C8-30), Ambulance 8-6 with 3, Chief 8-20, and Chief 8-10 all responded. C8-20 arrived and reported 1 vehicle into a field with 1 occupant still in the vehicle. E8-2 and A8-6 arrived and went to work packaging the patient. All units cleared at 1418 hours.
