FIRE AT HMAC

07/25/14 0725hrs Stations
8 and 7 (Tioga) were dispatched on Box 8-56 to HMAC on Route 287 in Lawrence Township for the report of the molten
iron furnace being on fire. Engine 8-3, Engine 8-2, and Ambulance 8-6 all responded. Additional reports of a large
fire within the structure were provided and a second alarm was requested. Stations 1 (Wellsboro), 2 (Mansfield), 11 (Middlebury),
12 (Millerton), 18 (Nelson), and Lindley FD were all dispatched. First alarm units arrived and met with maintenance staff
and discovered a failure of the molten holding pot had caused a fire in that area. Due to the metal construction and types
of material, the fire was contained to that area. Aerial 1-9 and Ladder 2-9 placed their ladders to the roof for precaution
and other units were assigned to staging. E8-3 and E7-3s crew assisted maintenance staff with control operations and stood
by with a hand line if needed. Within two hours the incident was brought under control and units began to be released. All
remaining units cleared the scene at 0953 hours.
2ND RESCUE CALL - FALL VICTIM
07/18/14 1756hrs Soon
after calling in quarters from the previous rescue call, Station 8 was again alerted for an individual fallen over an embankment
and into the creek near the end of the Wheeler Road in Lawrence Township. Rescue 8-8, Squad 8-18, and Ambulance
8-6 responded. Nelson Engine 18-2 also responded as they were still in the area from the previous incident. Due to the nature
of the incident, a helicopter was requested for standby. Units arrived and discovered that the individual had
fallen 10' over a ledge to the creek below. Responders carried equipment into the wooded area approximately 100 feet to access
the patient. Rescue crews provided EMS care and setup ropes to bring the patient up to members awaiting on the path to carry
to the ambulance. Guthrie Air was requested to land at the WHS soccer field to transport the patient. Within 10 minutes of
arrival, the patient was packaged and carried to the ambulance for transport to the landing zone. Engine 18-2 and Rescue 8-8
cleared the scene and established the LZ at the soccer field. Crews assisted with loading the patient into the helicopter
before returning to the station at hours.
PERSON TRAPPED UNDER A VEHICLE
07/18/14 1634hrs Stations
8 and 18 (Nelson) were dispatched to a residence on the Bliss Road in Lawrence Township for the report of an individual
trapped under a vehicle. It was reported that patient was working under the vehicle when the jack had slipped, causing
the vehicle to come down and pin him. Rescue 8-8, Ambulance 8-6, and Squad 8-18 all responded. A helicopter was
placed on standby as well. Upon arrival, R8-8s crew deployed stabilization and lifting equipment to free the
patient. Bystanders on scene had already assisted and was able to lift the pressure of the truck off the patient using
a jack. Crews removed the patient from underneath the vehicle and packaged him for EMS transport. Units from 8 and Engine
18-2 cleared the scene and established a landing zone for Life Flight 4 at the Lawrenceville soft ball field. At the LZ, units
assisted with loading the patient into the helicopter. LF4 went airborne at 1738 hours and all fire units returned to
quarters.
HELICOPTER ASSIST @ THE BALLFIELD
07/07/14 2300hrs Station 8 EMS was dispatched to a medical call on the Station Road in Lawrence Township. Squad 8-18 and Ambulance
8-6 responded. Once on scene, units requested a helicopter for transport. LifeNet 7-7 was alerted and Station 8 Fire was dispatched
to establish an LZ at the Lawrenceville Softball Fields. Engine 8-3 and Squad 8-18 responded to the LZ. The landing zone was
setup and crews assisted EMS with loading into the helicopter. LifeNet departed the scene and all units cleared at 2328 hours.
STANDBY IN STATION TO COVER
07/02/14 1531hrs
Station 8 was alerted this afternoon to standby in quarters and cover Station 7 (Tioga) while they were
assisting at a building fire in Delmar Township. An engine company awaited in quarters for approximately 2 hours
before being released from standby.
POSSIBLE STRUCTURE FIRE IN CATON
07/01/14 1704hrs Caton FD, Lindley FD, and Station 8 were dispatched to a reported structure fire near the intersection of the Church
Creek Road and Hurd Cross Road in the Town of Caton. Chief officers from Lindley and Caton arrived and reported it to be a
controlled burn and requested all units cancelled.
